A year (and a bit)

So its been a year and a bit since I last published a post on my blog, my apologies. I will try to push stuff out more often... I am slowly editing the work the editor handed back... Very slowly, I have actually decided to work on a couple of short stories first, just to take my mind off my current project.

More to come.

The Quest Continues

Well, as I reported earlier, a professional editor has agreed to take me on. Editors generally have a busy schedule, so you need to have patience. They can't just drop everything and do your manuscript instead. Well, she has started on my manuscript and now it's down to nail biting again. Her sample edit sharpened things up greatly, I ran with the sample edit as best as my tired brain could, and in a three week period did a bunch more edits in order to prepare for this.

Looking forward to the results. This is a "Macro" edit, which checks for flow, readability and continuity. The next step would be a copy/line edit, which is more intensive.

Stay tuned!

Milestone 2

Milestone #1 was completing and editing, as well as I could, my manuscript.

Milestone #2?

A professional editor has agreed to take me on!

What this means is a need for a bit of detachment from my manuscript. I think authors can sometimes get so close to a project that they cannot see the forest for the trees, so to speak. This means they cannot detect the problems, as it should already be perfect in their eyes. An editor won't necessarily see it that way. They will work on a project with a detached, professional eye, trained through practice to look for problems. Is your skin thick enough?

 I hope mine is.
